Since 1995, I have operated miq productions, a music production, recording, editing and mastering firm.
My mission remains the same as always - to:
- Help make important, innovative and creative music recordings sound their best prior to commercial release
- Provide high quality mastering and editing services for independent labels
- Work closely with clients to ensure they have input into aesthetic decisions that affect their recording
what makes me a unique audio engineer
- Getting great recordings of regional and local folk instruments, with specialties in Anatolian, Central Asian, South Asian, and Indonesian instruments
- A highly attuned ear for different tuning and rhythmic systems (makam, maqam, raga, dastgah, gamelan tunings)
- The ability to work very efficiently and transparently, so the artist maintains their creative flow without worrying about technical details
- A flexible mixing aesthetic, from pure classical style recordings to highly produced contemporary electroacoustic popular music
- Classical editing: proficient score-reading and skills performing micro-edits of even the most complex works

audio engineering history
I began my audio education as a physics and computer music student at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where I studied with Joann Kuchera-Morin.
I continued studies at Wesleyan University with Ron Kuivila, where I worked and assisted in the teaching of recording arts classes while pursuing a Masters degree in Ethnomusicology and Interactive Computer Media.
Since 1997, I have worked as a freelance engineer at many private California studios and at Cal Arts (Los Angeles).
I have been the in-house digital audio engineer at Radical House Studio (San Francisco) since 2002, where I have worked on a variety of avant-garde, world music, jazz, and electronica recordings.
I have also done mastering work for Oxford University Press, Golden Horn Records, Koch International Classics, and Albany Records. From 2005-2006, I was the lead engineer at ZB Stüdyo in Istanbul, where I worked on 11 albums, several feature film scores, and music for a popular TV series.
