What this form is not for:
I get on average 30-50 requests a month with quite detailed research questions: complex topical bibliographies, belly dance teachers in Istanbul,
bartering down the prices of musical instruments in Turkey, and the like. I typically attempt to be helpful and provide considerate responses.
However, I've noticed that despite the effort I put in I almost never (literally, less than 10% of the time) get a thank you for my efforts nor have I ever got a copy of the paper,
article, or other writing that used the results of my provided research (though I always request this). After ten years of observing the situation deteriorate,
I no longer consider it a valuable use of my time to provide information based on random internet emails, and am focusing instead on developing materials
(books, articles, and web sites) that benefit many people.
If you feel that your case is exceptional, be prepared to write a lot of emails and provide a lot of information about your project, and I expect both thank you emails (really, they only
take all of 10 seconds to compose and send) and copies of work that you write using my research. It's a sad state of affairs that I need to explicitly request this, but that's the
reality of the so-called "connected" world we live in.
